What is Bowen?

Bowen is a powerful and effective therapy that helps the body heal itself. It is natural, drug free and non-invasive.

This hands-on treatment involves gentle but direct manipulation using fingers and thumbs, across key structural points of the body. These 'moves' over muscle and other soft tissue address the whole body, which when stimulated in this way send neurological impulses to the brain.

These stimulations have a huge effect on the way the body holds itself and result in immediate responses such as muscle relaxation, which in turn can help symptoms such as pain, swelling, weakness, tightness & numbness.

How can it help you?

Bowen is an effective therapy which is commonly requested for persistent back, neck, shoulder, knee, ankle and foot problems. It gently regains the body's state of balance and releases muscle tension, often caused by poor posture, lack of exercise, illness or injury, resulting in reduced pain and more freedom of movement.

It stimulates blood circulation and boosts the lymphatic system which rids the body of wastes and toxins and helps to improve immunity, needed to prevent infections and fight illness.

A Bowen treatment is very relaxing and clients frequently report improvements with psychological problems such as stress and anxiety although the technique is not specifically designed for these issues. Improvements in energy levels are also an added bonus.

Who chooses Bowen?

This therapy is a gentle form of bodywork which is perfect for people of all ages from newborns through to the elderly. There is no hard manipulation or pressure so people are attracted by its reputation for being safe, gentle and most importantly, effective.

Bowen can also keep your body in good health. You don't have to be in pain in order to benefit from the treatment. It's a great way to help the body function at an optimal level of health and efficiency.

Increasing numbers of professional athletes, dancers, personal trainers and people who carry out physical jobs are turning to Bowen to treat both chronic and acute pain. Athletes find it can increase flexibility, reduce muscle pain and fatigue to such an extent that the technique is being used at high level sports clubs in the UK.

Your Bowen Appointment

Consultation

A full in depth consultation will be carried out at your first appointment which is important to help me understand your main health concerns, full medical history and your lifestyle. We will then agree the most appropriate treatment for you.

What to expect

The treatment is usually carried out while lying down although it is possible to be treated whilst seated or even standing.  I can work through light clothing or directly on the skin.

Depending on your condition, I will use unique painless pressure moves in specific
areas over the skin, muscles, ligaments and tendons which have a powerful effect on the body.

My approach focuses on finding the underlying cause of the condition, not just treating the symptoms. In this way the body can be brought back into balance.

A session lasts between 45 minutes to an hour and usually results in a deep sense of relaxation, which allows tension to be relieved, pain to be reduced and enables your body to start to rebalance itself.

After your treatment, I will give you aftercare instructions on how to make the most of your session.

How many treatments will I need?

This is a difficult question to answer. We usually find that we can tell whether a client will respond to Bowen within three treatments as definite improvements should have been noted during this time.

Many people often notice significant benefits after just ONE session although it is advisable to have more, in order that the benefits are longer lasting.

Acute conditions can respond very quickly while chronic conditions may require longer term sessions.  Each client is unique and will respond differently.
